Sewer Billings
Over half of the Township is connected to public sanitary sewer services, provided by the Southern Clinton County Municipal Utilities Authority (SCCMUA). Billing for these services are provided by the Treasurer’s Office. Homes are billed by a flat rate based on a single “residential equivalent unit”, or REU. Current sewer rates are available online in the Sewer Fee Schedule.
The sewer billing schedule is as follows:
| Service Coverage |
Billed |
Due (see Calendar) |
| January - March |
December 15 |
January 15 |
| April - June |
March 15 |
April 15 |
| July - September |
June 15 |
July 15 |
| October - December |
September 15 |
October 15 |
Sewer accounts paid after
the due date are charged a 10% fee. For example,
a late $66 sewer charge is assessed a $6.60 per REU penalty . Please
note that failure to receive a sewer bill or failure to deliver
timely payment does not waive penalty charges. Sewer bills that
are over one year delinquent will have balances turned over to taxes
as a delinquent sewer charge on the winter tax bill. Sewer amounts
turned over to taxes are determined on September 1 for the December
1 tax billing.
SCCMUA operates and maintains the sanitary sewer system. If you have a sewer back up, immediately notify SCCMUA at (517) 669-8311 or call 9-1-1 Emergency Dispatch after hours. SCCMUA will respond for itself and the Township. If a problem within the sewer system is found, SCCMUA will be the agency responsible for determining the cause, coordinating claims, and keeping customers informed.
