Property Taxes And Millage Rates
Tax Bills - As a taxpayer, you have the responsibility to verify that payment is being made on the correct property description. The tax amounts listed on the tax notice are levied on the property described at the top of the bill, left hand side, and are for the indicated tax year. Please note that failure to receive a tax bill or failure to deliver timely tax payment does not waive interest or penalty charges. The billing and payment cycle for taxes are as follows:
| Tax Period |
Billed/Mailed |
Due (see Calendar) |
| Summer Taxes |
July 1 |
September 14 |
| Winter Taxes |
December 1 |
February 14 |
Payments - Please make checks or money orders payable to DeWitt Charter Township. Checks are accepted as conditional payment until the check clears the bank. Partial payments can be made any time after the initial bill is sent.
The Township mails out only one bill
per tax cycle. If you receive a tax bill, but you have an escrow,
you must contact your mortgage company to make sure they pay the
bill. If you did not receive a tax bill and you do not have an escrow,
please call us and we will gladly mail you an additional copy.

Millage Rates
DeWitt Charter Township serves residents within five separate school districts. The school district your property is located in determines the millage rate used to calculate your taxes. Your millage rate is the total of school taxes, county taxes, some state taxes, library taxes and township taxes. The Township collects for all these groups and then distributes the money to the schools, county, library, etc. Current millage rates are available online in the Documents & Forms section.
